The Stored-Preset MegaFilter Plus Launching Soon!

I’ve been listening to my MegaFilter users – and now I’m offering the things that everyone said they wanted.

So many users said they loved the sounds they could get, but were frustrated at having to reset the knobs to precisely the same position each time they wanted the same effects later (see below for more details on that unit).

Almost everyone said they would like to be able to sequence through a list of settings, for use in live performance or playing a complex sequence.

And some were frustrated with the experimenting to get their first satisfying combination of sounds, given the millions that are available.

So – I’ve addressed all these with the new MegaFilter Plus:

  • It will come pre-loaded with a selection of great ‘Factory Presets’, designed by Musicians, Producers and Engineers
  • You can take any of these as a starting point, edit it to your heart’s content and save it as a Custom Preset
  • You can select any sequence of Presets and load them into a stack, then progress forward or back with a single tap of a footswitch
  • Internal storage for thousands of Presets
  • Switch between ‘Play Mode’ and ‘Edit Mode’
  • Simple intuitive editing process
  • There will also be a 19″ rackmount 2-channel version

I’ll be launching the Kickstarter campaign in January, or possibly the end of December. There will be some wicked early-bird deals for fast movers.

“We have used it on tracks for forthcoming Lee”Scratch”Perry and Horace Andy albums.
I’d recommend top marks out of 10 ! I’m keeping it as a secret weapon… I love it… an amazing unit.”
Adrian Sherwood Record Producer

“I have spent days playing around with the MegaFilter and still haven’t exhausted the things I can do with it. From watery guitar sounds to funk bass sounds to transformation of piano to synth and augmenting old PPG synth sounds to more complex filtered textures. This thing has endless possibilities.”
 Paul Northfield Engineer/Producer

“I think the filter itself sounds great! Nice warm saturated sound, great LFO with very satisfying high frequency tonality and musicality when jamming with the expression pedal.”
Steve Young (aka Hedflux) Dance music producer

“Ooh very cool, thank you very much!!
Can’t wait – it is an amazing  pedal!”
Dean Pleasants Infectious Grooves and Suicidal Tendencies

So how can you get your hands on one?

They will soon be available in music stores at a suggested retail price of £295, and I’ll also be selling them on Amazon.

You can get one now on the Buy page of this site.

Ra Diaz and Dean Pleasants of Suicidal Tendencies give the MegaFilter a try recently in Los Angeles:

So what about these thousands of variations?

As you see, there are 14 analog control knobs on the unit, and even if we only consider that each one was capable of being set into one of ten positions, that would be 10 x 10 x 10….(14 times) different combinations. That is 100,000,000,000,000 – a hundred trillion! In addition, there are two rotary switches – a four-way one to select the filter type and a three-way one to select the wave-shape of the LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator). So that gives us 4 x 3 x the previous number for the total range of possible variations: 1,200 trillion. Even if only a tiny fraction of them are useful that is still many, many thousands. And of course in practice you will be able to set the knobs much more precisely than just ten positions round the dial.

Won’t that make it impossibly complex to set up? Not at all – the logical and intuitive layout of the controls enables very rapid mastery of the range of effects, as all the musicians who have tried so far have discovered. It’s all explained in the Instruction Manual and Video Tutorial.

Accessories

The unit requires a “Boss standard” 9V DC regulated (pin negative) power supply, and an expression pedal. These are not included, as many purchasers will already own these items, or have their own preferences regarding the models they prefer. A passive volume pedal can also be used, connected by a Y lead (stereo jack to two mono jacks).
